SIENNA SELF DEFENSE
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at its core is a self defense martial art that we practice here in Pearland, TX. If all you can do is stop the other person from harming you then you have won. The essence of Jiu-Jitsu is self defense; not to inflict any pain or beat up an opponent.
Compared to other martial arts, Jiu-Jitsu self defense uses body position and leverage to control your opponent. Master Carlos Gracie and Master Helio Gracie proved that with nothing but his knowledge and small body that he could not be defeated. He proved a point that has carried Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to where it is today. It is the only martial art in which a small person can hold their own and even defeat a larger opponent. The Gracie family changed the way the world looked at both profession fighting and self defense with their martial art.
The first UFC is a prime example of this. Challengers from all martial arts and weight classes came to meet and see which art is dominant. No rules just like in the streets. Royce Gracie submitted all challengers big and small using his technique. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not only the most effecting martial art for self defense, but also very applicable in a street setting against trained or untrained opponents. This is also why it is a big part of the military and police training regiments today.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu self defense has a large focus on the ground. You will learn how to throw and defend against strikes here, but we believe that the focus of our training should represent the reality of what happens in a fight. Most fights end up on the ground and one point or another whether someone gets taken down or goes down from a punch. Almost all sexual assaults are going to take place on the ground. For these reason we focus a good percentage of our training in these ground positions.
